Tips for Trimming your
Tree
Are you uninterested in decorating your Xmas
tree the same way each year?
Perhaps it's time to mix it up a little bit
this year and try something new. If you are contemplating
trying something different this year, great! Change is good.
Keep the following in mind whilst you are pondering what
sort of tree to get, where to set your tree in your house,
and how you would like to decorate it.
Safety should be your top concern when you
are deciding what sort of tree to get and where to set it in
your house. Live trees should never be placed near any sort
of heating source. If you've got the option, attempt to cut
your own tree, that way you know it is fresh! If you do not
have that option, take these steps to help identify just how
fresh it is. Whilst holding it, shake it and see just what
number of its needles fall to the ground. Take some and bend
them.
If they recover and return to their original shape, it is a
pretty fresh tree. It should also have some fresh, wet sap at
the bottom if it is been cut down lately. Check the form of the
tree too. You need one that is strong and straight.
The branches should be robust to support heavier ornaments.
When you get the tree home, make a fresh cut off the base of
the trunk to help it absorb water more readily. And just like a
freshly cut flower, a tree must be checked daily to guarantee
it's getting lots of water. You have possibly got a different
theme in mind for decorating this year's tree. You are only
restrained by your own imagination and creativity. A Xmas tree
is a mirrored image of the family's personality and history.
Maybe something huge occurred in your own family this year,eg a
marriage, the birth of a baby, or a university graduation.
Incorporate those milestones into your tree if you like.
You can even make your own ornaments by decorating coloured
glass ornaments yourself with glitter, glue, buttons, sequins
or old jewellery or beading. Decorate your tree from the bottom
up. A good rule is a hundred lights for each foot your tree is
tall.
If your tree stands 6 feet tall, that suggests you will need
about six hundred lights for it. Do not simply decorate the
ends of the tree branches. Hang some ornaments and string some
lights on your tree nearer to the trunk as well to add some
dimension and depth. If you have your tree lights plugged in
while you are decorating, you will be in a position to see
immediately how they look when you place them.
Check for any bulbs that need replacing before you start
putting the string on the tree. If you intend to use garland
for your tree, you will need approximately ten feet per foot of
tree height. You can accent garland with ribbons, raffia,
synthetic flowers, and beads too. Dried flowers can be used as
well, just be certain to take special care they are not placed
near any lights. Tree toppers can be nearly anything. Again,
you are only restrained by your own creativity. Enjoy
decorating your tree and have a joyous vacation season!
